Today we learned about some unique ways symbols are used in Canada. We learned more about totem poles and how they used symbols to tell stories without words. We thought about which animals we would put in our own totem poles.
Then we learned about the Inukshuk. Inukshuk are made using stacked stones. They represent friendship! So with the help of our friends we tried to make our own.
Stacking the different size stones in the shape of a human was more difficult than we thought. It took a lot of teamwork and balance.
The strategy was to use big stones to represent feet. Then we tried to make the body as tall as we could before it fell down.
Even if it fell down we encouraged each other to try again.
Canada has a interesting history of traditions! Making Inukshuk together was exciting. Now we understand why they symbolize friendship. Good job everybody!
